SONGWRITING WEEKENDER 2018!

GIR partnered with PRS Foundation’s ‘Women Make Music’, BMG and ASCAP to deliver the fourth Arts Academy Weekender; a two day intensive workshop at ACM London in Clapham for female songwriters aged 16-30. The weekender was supervised by Grammy nominated songwriter and founder of Girls I Rate Carla Marie Williams (Beyonce & Britney Spears) and songwriting tutors, internationally acclaimed songwriters Tanya Lacey and Simon Smith (Paloma Faith & Shy FX) and Tanya Lacey (Rihanna & Emeli Sande). The 15 successful applicants were equipped with the fundamental practices, techniques and skills needed in their everyday lives as songwriters. Three amazing tracks were written over the weekend which have since gathered the attention of heads of A&R at various labels.

The weekender ended with the Girls I Rate mixer, hosted by BBC 1XTRA & SBTV’s Presenter, Nadia Jae. The mixer presented the opportunity for the girls to celebrate their achievements made over the weekend and introduce the attendees to a professional network. They had their songs listened to by an intimate crowd of invited special guests which included A&R’s, publishers, managers and other industry representatives.
